“This is how to run a restaurant!”

If the Wicklow Heather was a musical it would be The Phantom of the Opera, If it were a painting it would be a Picasso and if it were a writer it would be Oscar Wilde.

My wife and I were in the area with our two boys and we called to enquire if there was availability. The lady who answered the phone helpfully got us a table for four at short notice.

Set in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains in the quaint little village of Laragh you know this place is special even before you set foot inside the door. There is a lovely seated area to the front of the premises which is packed with clientele of varying age enjoying the food and the atmosphere. The decor inside is amazing with antique furnishings tastefully decorating the walls along with old books from irish writers dating back centuries.

As for the menu, it is varied and well priced. On that point- my wife and I always remark how the kids menu in restaurants is usually made up of anything that can be deep fried and served up quickly. Not so here, the children's menu was great food which you would give to your children at home. Both our boys (9 & 3 ) had the lasagne which was just fantastic. I had the slow cooked lamb dish which was the best lamb I have ever had. Wicklow lamb which had been cooked slowly for 24 hours and was literally melt-in-the-mouth and served with seasonal vegetables and a red wine jus.

My wife had the beef dish which Im told was equally impressive! Everything from the service, the food the ambiance was just perfect. For dessert I had a berry crumble with ice cream and my wife had chocolate fondant and they lived up the the standards of the preceding dishes.
This is how a restaurant should be run and sets the bar for not only every other restaurant in Wicklow but throughout the country. I cannot wait to go back. Superb.

“Great restaurant and lovely B&B”

We happened upon the restaurant on a walking trip to Gleandalough and were so delighted with it; the service was excellent-friendly, efficient and v knowledgeable. (e.g. We were there with a young baby and the waitress asked if we'd like his meal heated, another waitress gave us a great tour of the writers room). The food was excellent too.

We liked it so much that we stayed overnight on our second visit in one of their beautiful Apartments right beside the restaurant. Again, the service was exceptional. While we had just booked a room the owner John upgraded us as it wasn't a v busy night. He also showed us each of the apartments so we could pick the one we liked best and came back later with milk for tea/coffee and a couple of slices of cake! And we had another lovely meal in the restaurant.

I would definitely recommend here.
